Worthington, Ohio---Pinetops, North Carolina: Get ready to hear the power and feel the noise!
In conjunction with the South Edgecombe Rural Fire Department, the National Tractor Pullers Association and the United Pullers of the Carolinas will present the 42nd annual Pinetops 300 Truck and Tractor Pull on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19. Each evening's seven-class session will begin at 7 p.m. and will be live-streamed from Pinetops Ballpark to the world at WatchNTPA.com.
In truck and tractor pulling, vehicles drag a 20-ton weight transfer sled along a straight, dirt track as the sled's resistance increases. Within a class of similar vehicles, the puller that achieves the greatest distance is victorious. The NTPA is the world's number-one sanctioning organization for premier-level events that feature highly specialized machines resembling farm tractors, trucks, and dragsters and dedicated competitors that battle for purse money and end-of-season championships. No other motorsport offers the diversity of vehicle types, variety of engine combinations, intensity of brand rivalries, and accessibility of competitors. If you're looking for fierce, fair competition in a family-friendly, patriotic atmosphere, give truck and tractor pulling a try in Pinetops.
Divisions competing at the Pinetops 300 include Heavy Super Stock, Super Farm, and Light Pro Stock Tractors; Two-Wheel-Drive and Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks; and Mini and Multi-Engine Modifieds. The Super Farms, Light Pros, Two Wheel Drives, Four Wheel Drives, Modifieds, and Friday's Heavy Supers will compete for points toward NTPA's Region IV and berths in the end-of-season all-star invitational Enderle Pull-Off on Saturday, September 15 in Urbana, Ohio; the tractor classes and Modifieds will crown regional champions in October in Raleigh, North Carolina. Meanwhile, UPOC, an NTPA member state organization, will award points to the Minis and Saturday's Heavy Supers.
Winners at the 2017 Pinetops 300 were Marty Harrell of Elm City, North Carolina ("Pure Country" HSS), Daniel McDonald of Red Springs, North Carolina ("Bad Boy" SF), Chris Hales of Autryville, North Carolina ("The Outlaw" SF), Crystal and Steve Willson of Prince Frederick, Maryland ("Her Dirty Money" and "Running Bear" TWDs), Jacob Cramer of Lothian, Maryland ("Super Natural" FWD), John T. Davis of Tappahannock, Virginia ("The Legend" FWD), David Lacey of Thedford, Ontario ("Triple Play Unchained" and "Triple Play: Double or Nothing" MINIs), and Dale Burleson of Albemarle, North Carolina ("Hindsight III" MOD). Light Pro Stocks are making their Pinetops 300 debut.
Expected to return in defense of their 2017 Region IV championships are Ronnie Strickland of Selma, North Carolina ("Another Outlaw" HSS), McDonald, and Chip Street of Mt. Vernon, Ohio ("Wildfire" MOD). Mark A. Garrett of Roxboro, North Carolina and his "Southern Smoke" won 2017's Region IV Light Pro title.
