Worthington, Ohio---Raleigh, North Carolina: Get ready to hear the power and feel the noise!
In conjunction with the North Carolina State Fair, the National Tractor Pullers Association and the United Pullers of the Carolinas will present the NC State Fair Southern Showdown in four sessions, Friday through Sunday, October 12-14.
In truck and tractor pulling, vehicles drag a 20-ton weight transfer sled along a straight, dirt track as the sled's resistance increases. Within a class of similar vehicles, the puller that achieves the greatest distance is victorious. The NTPA is the world's number-one sanctioning organization for premier-level events that feature highly specialized machines resembling farm tractors, trucks, and dragsters and dedicated competitors that battle for purse money and end-of-season championships. No other motorsport offers the diversity of vehicle types, variety of engine combinations, intensity of brand rivalries, and accessibility of competitors. If you're looking for fierce, fair competition in a family-friendly, patriotic atmosphere, give truck and tractor pulling a try in Raleigh.
Divisions competing at the Southern Showdown are as follows: Session One (Friday, 6 p.m.): Regional Light Pro Stocks and Modified Minis and invitational classes of Two- and Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks. Session Two (Saturday, noon): regional Heavy Super Stock and Super Farm Tractors and invitational Two-Wheelers and Light Four Wheel Drives. Session Three (Saturday, 6 p.m.): regional Multi-Engine Modifieds, United Pullers of the Carolinas classes of Light Pros and Minis, and invitational Light Four-Wheelers. Session Four (Sunday, 1 p.m.): regional Heavy Supers and Modifieds, UPOC Super Farms, and invitational Four-Wheelers. Participants in the regional classes at the Southern Showdown will compete for points toward championships in NTPA's Region IV and berths in the 2019 Enderle Memorial Pull-Off in Urbana, Ohio.
Winners at the 2017 Southern Showdown included Brent Payne of Hamilton, Ohio and John Strickland of Clinton, North Carolina ("GALOT II" HSS), Burnace Vandergriff of Smithville, TN ("Green Fever" SF), Mark Garrett of Roxboro, North Carolina ("Southern Smoke" LT PS), Teresa Roberts of Brooklyn, Michigan ("Twister" TWD), Bryan McDonald of Kennedyville, Maryland ("Suffering Sanity" TWD), Jacob Cramer of Lothian, Maryland ("Super Natural" FWD), Ben Ellis of Champlain, Virginia ("Benjammin" FWD), Joe Eder of North Collins, New York ("Polar Air" MINI), Keith Wayson of Harwood, Maryland ("Super Bee" MOD), and Randy Davis of Tappahannock, Virginia ("Running Bear" MOD).
