Sandwich Fair's Meaty Lineup Ends GN, Region III Regular Seasons

SandwichILWorthington, Ohio---On Thursday and Saturday, September 7 and 9, the National Tractor Pullers Association teams with the DeKalb County Fair in Sandwich, Illinois to present the DeKalb County Fair NTPA Grand Nationals at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. Part of the NTPA Championship Pulling Series, the event will include nine Grand National classes and three Regional National classs over three sessions: Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

In truck and tractor pulling, vehicles drag a 20-ton weight transfer sled along a straight, dirt track as the sled's resistance increases. Within a class of similar vehicles, the puller that achieves the greatest distance is victorious  The NTPA is the world's number-one sanctioning organization for premier-level events that feature highly specialized machines resembling farm tractors, trucks, and dragsters and dedicated competitors that battle for purse money and end-of-season championships. With superchargers emitting an ear-splitting whine, massive tires churning clay at 100-mph wheelspeeds, turbochargers pumping columns of diesel smoke into the sky, and engine combinations exceeding 10,000 horsepower, high-performance pulling offers fans a multitude of thrills unmatched by any other motorsport.

The DeKalb County Fair Grand Nationals event is part of the NTPA's Grand National Series presented by Case IH Agriculture. On Thursday, GN Super Stock Diesel 4x4 Trucks are joined by Regional National Two-Wheel-Drive, Four-Wheel-Drive, and Pro Stock Diesel 4x4 3.6 Trucks . Then, appearing at both Saturday sessions are GN Super Stock Diesel, Super Farm, and Pro Stock Tractors and Multi-Engine Modifieds. Licensed competitors will earn points toward championships on the Grand National or Region III (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin) circuit, and the Super Stock Diesel 4x4s, Two Wheel Drives, Four Wheel Drives, Diesel Supers, Super Farms, Pro Stocks, and Modifieds will additionally battle for berths in the 31st Enderle Memorial Pull-Off all-star invitational in Urbana, Ohio on Saturday, September 16.

Class winners from the 2016 DeKalb County Fair Grand Nationals were A.J. Riedl of Dubuque, Iowa ("Shafted" TWD), Larry Peterson of Baldwin, Wisconsin ("Profab Geared Up" FWD), Jared Ripp of Dane, Wisconsin ("Farmer's Nightmare" PSD 4x4), Steve Burge of Lynn, Indiana ("Lock-N-Load" SSD), Charles Pelletier of St. Armand, Quebec ("CP Dream II" PS), Mike Conny of Beloit, Ohio ("MAC Daddy" PS), and Scott Tedder of Marion, Indiana ("Mr. Twister" MOD). 2016 Grand National and Region III champions included Jody and Colin Ross of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania ("Triple Bypass" SSD), Rod Deck of Winside, Nebraska ("Dream On" SF), Conny, Dennis Christensen of Glencoe, Minnesota ("Pack Rat V" TWD), Carol Suchy of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota ("Totally Geared" FWD), and Bret Berg of Farmington, Minnesota ("Money Maker" MOD). The DeKalb County Fair Grand Nationals mark the final appearance for the Grand National Super Stock Diesel 4x4s, Diesel Supers, Super Farms, Pro Stocks, and Modifieds and for the Region III Two Wheel Drives and Four Wheel Drives, and the champions of these classes will be crowned.
