Soybean Checkoff Powers NTPA Championship Pulling Season with Biodiesel Print E-mail
Tuesday, 02 June 2009 13:12
ST. LOUIS  – This summer, the United Soybean Board (USB) and soybean checkoff will again let the power of tractor pulling tell the story of soy biodiesel. The checkoff will help co-sponsor the 82-event National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) season for 2009 as a way of demonstrating the benefits of soy biodiesel, a homegrown, environmentally friendly and renewable biofuel, to thousands of diesel users.

“NTPA tractor pulls offer audiences full of diesel users who are either very knowledgeable about biodiesel or have a lot of questions about biodiesel,” said Russ Carpenter, USB director and a soybean farmer from Trumansburg, N.Y. “We get to talk to a lot of farmers, a lot of truck drivers and a lot of industry people who are interested in biodiesel.”

As part of its sponsorship, the soybean checkoff supports NTPA on-road vehicles, as they will run on biodiesel blends. High-performance vehicles can realize the same benefits as any other vehicle running on soy biodiesel: increased lubricity, the highest BTU content of any alternative fuel, high cetane and the best energy return of any liquid fuel.

The checkoff’s sponsorship also includes soy biodiesel track signage, public address announcements and advertisements during NTPA’s Championship Pulling Series on RFD-TV and in the NTPA’s official publication, THE PULLER.

Finally, checkoff farmer-leaders will be available to inform pull attendees of the benefits of soy biodiesel at an exhibit during the following six NTPA Grand National tractor pulls:

• Tomah, Wis., June 26-28

• New Hampton, Iowa, July 18-19

• Chapel Hill, Tenn., July 24-25

• Bowling Green, Ohio, Aug. 21-23

• Jefferson City, Mo., Aug. 28-29

• Sandwich, Ill., Sept. 10 & 12

"The relationship with the United Soybean Board has been a great fit to our sport," said Gregg Randall, NTPA Office GM. "The success stories of fans and pullers utilizing biodiesel in their everyday fueling needs is impressive. Our Chevrolet duallys performed beautifully last season using B-2 for the summer. From our positive experience, we are able to discuss the product with pride and first hand knowledge of its performance. We look forward to our new pair of trucks also realizing the great benefits of using biodiesel, and encourage all supporters of NTPA Championship Pulling to fuel their diesel powered equipment with soy biodiesel."

USB is made up of 68 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff.

The soybean checkoff would like to remind you that whether you're pulling, planting, or hauling, your diesel engine works hard to help you perform better. Return the favor and give your diesel engine the fuel that helps power the NTPA - soy biodiesel. It's a fuel made right here in the USA, and just a 2 percent blend can increase fuel lubricity by up to 66 percent to help your engine run cleaner, longer. Visit www.biodiesel.com for a list of suppliers near you. Do something nice for your engine the next time you fuel up - ask for soy biodiesel.
