Dean Holicky earned his fourth Grand National title of the past five years. After finishing one point behind Dan Prahl’s “Full Tilt” in 2017, Holicky piloted the “Mother Trucker” Peterbilt back to the top this season.
Dean, a native of Montgomery, Minnesota, attributes his success to “good parts, a good team, key mechanics, and a good wife and family! The Semi is heavy, the parts are heavy, and it requires a lot of bull work. I get a little worried about the truck; it’s getting to be seven years old.”
Holicky started the season with two runner-up finishes in his home state at Hutchinson. He won the first hook in Tomah, Wisconsin to take sole possession of first place. He finished third in the Budweiser Dairyland Super Nationals’ second Semi appearance. Dean stated, “We started strong. Some of our successes were helped by getting ahead right away.”
“Mother Trucker” swept both hooks at the North Iowa Nationals in Rockwell to run his season total to three. At the Pullsation In Ionia, Michigan, he finished second and third.
Remaining in the Wolverine state, he “almost drove out of bounds” at the Celebration on the Pond in Morley but finished sixth to take a six-point lead into the final two hooks on the schedule. Just as it had in 2017, the title once again would be decided at the National Tractor Pulling Championships in Bowling Green.
Dean’s blue Peterbilt was among the dozen trucks to have completed their passes when the skies opened on Thursday night to bring an early end to the evening. Though the team experienced breakage in the second hook on Saturday afternoon, “Mother Trucker” finished in sixth place to earn another title by eight points over second-place Pat Eilen.
Dean would like to thank his wife Beth, his kids Rachel, Katelyn, and Casey, and his brother Danny. He wanted to acknowledge the late Bob Tuma, Bill and Shannon Daluge, Eric and Kenzie Gregory, Jon Halderson, and Blake Kolles.
Dean also thanks Riverside Engine, Cyclone Machine, Coop Engines, Profab, Zumbrota Bearing and Gear (ZBAG), Hart’s Diesel, Wimer Fuel Injection and Turbo, Jack and Trudy Kielmeyer, Rob Russell, special helpers at home Eric Gostomzcik and Bernie LaCanne, Bret and Jeannie Berg, the NTPA and its tech officials, the promoters, and the fans.
