Worthington, Ohio---The National Tractor Pulling Championships has announced a series of significant changes to its 53rd edition’s lineups that affect each of the event’s five Super National sessions over the weekend of Thursday through Saturday, August 15-17. The revisions were motivated by a desire to balance session-by-session hook counts in anticipation of increased class sizes.
“It was a juggling issue with the expected extra turnout,” began Mike Erford, President of the Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association. “We were looking at some extremely high numbers on Saturday night.
“At the same time, we thought we could bump Thursday night’s numbers up,” noted Erford. “Our sheets showed us that we’re sitting pretty even now.”
Remaining the same are the presence of all 13 NTPA Grand National divisions for two hooks apiece, the number of classes appearing in each session, and the session start times: Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at noon and 7 p.m., and Saturday at noon and 6:30 p.m.
The new class lineups by session are as follows:
Session One: Light Super Stock Tractors, Two-Wheel-Drive and Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks, and Light Unlimited and Unlimited Modifieds.
Session Two: Super Stock Diesel and Super Farm Tractors, Four-Wheel-Drive and Super Stock Diesel 4x4 Trucks, and Light Unlimited Modifieds.
Session Three: Super Stock Open and Pro Stock Tractors, Super Semi Trucks, and Mini and multi-engine Modifieds.
Session Four: Light Super Stock, Super Stock Open, and Super Farm Tractors, Two-Wheel-Drive Trucks, and multi-engine Modifieds.
Session Five: Super Stock Diesel and Pro Stock Tractors, Super Stock Diesel 4x4 and Super Semi Trucks, and Mini and Unlimited Modifieds.
Tracking on a class-by-class basis, TWD and SEMI have swapped slots in the first and last sessions. TWD will now appear in Session One, while SEMI will now run in Session Five. Then, the three middle sessions will have a reshuffling of six divisions. Moving to earlier appearances are FWD into Two (also S1), SF into Two (also S4), and SEMI into Three. Moving to later appearances are SSO into Three (also S4), LSS into Four (also S1), and TWD into Four.
Seven divisions remain unaffected by the moves: SSD (S2, S5), PS (S3, S5), SSD 4x4 (S2, S5), MINI (S3, S5), LT UNL (S1, S2), MOD (S3, S4), and UNL (S1, S5).
