Worthington, Ohio---World Pulling International, the parent company of the National Tractor Pullers Association, elected new leadership at its annual Shareholders' Meeting on Saturday, March 9. David P. Schreier, who served as the president of WPI's Executive Board, declined to run for reelection to the board pursuant to his intention to retire, which he publicly announced months earlier at the Association's Awards Banquet.
Carl Harlan, co-owner with wife Cindy of the C-Bar-C Expo Center in Cloverdale, Indiana, was elected to a three-year term on the Executive Board. Harlan, who also farms several hundred acres near his home in Waynetown, has promoted the NTPA Winter Nationals each January since 2015.
Elected to a full three-year term after his appointment last year was Robert Menn of Plymouth, Illinois. Menn, the 2005 NTPA Official of the Year, is the proprietor of Menn's Firestone in Carthage.
Harlan, Menn, and continuing board members Rick Austin of Brodhead, Wisconsin, George Everett of Monrovia, Indiana, and Roger Wysong of Lewisburg, Ohio, then convened for a Reorganizational Meeting. Wysong was elected as the second WPI president since the corporation's 1985 formation. Austin and Everett were reelected vice president and treasurer, respectively, and Menn was elected secretary.
In his remarks bidding farewell as an officer of the corporation, Schreier admitted it was an "emotional moment" and thanked those who had helped him lead the company for over three decades. He exhorted those in attendance to continue to welcome members of other organizations to compete at NTPA events. "That's where they'll see the best," he said with pride.
Several of the gathered expressed their gratitude and well wishes to Schreier.
Initiated to rescue the NTPA from debt in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, WPI has been governed by its shareholder-elected Executive Board throughout its existence.
Schreier will remain WPI's chief executive officer until the expiration of his current term on June 1.
