MOD Competitor Mike Piper Has Passed. Update: Funeral Info

The WPI/NTPA office has been informed of the death of Mike Piper, driver of the "Just Add Dirt" Modified, after a battle with cancer.

Mr. Piper, 69, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, competed on the NTPA's Grand and Pro National Series in the 1990s at several weight classes including Unlimited. He won the Bowling Green championship ring in 1998 in the 7,600-lb. Unlimited as well as 7,200-lb. classes at BG in 1988 and 1989. Mr. Piper was the second of three generations of pullers: his father Henry pulled Super Stocks in the NTPA's early years, while his son Brian, who sadly passed in 2011, also pulled Modifieds.

Mr. Piper was a member of Jefferson County Shrine, Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #31, the Elks, and Grace Community Church. His full obituary may be found here.

Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9 at Hughey Funeral Home, 1314 Main Street, Mt.Vernon, Illinois 62864, with a Shriner's Walk Through to follow. Mr. Piper's service will be Thursday, August 10 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
