Worthington, Ohio---Enjoy the Fourth, then take five.
That's the number of locations that will be visited by the NTPA caravan in the next week, including an expanded Grand National event in Iowa and a new early-summer trip to southwestern Ohio.
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 5-7, it's the North Iowa Nationals in Rockwell, Iowa. Beginning at 7 p.m. each night are four or five GN and two Region V classes. Here's what's on tap each night.
- Thursday: GN Super Stock Diesel Tractors, Super Stock Diesel 4x4 and Super Semi Trucks, and Multi-Engine Modifieds and Region V Two-Wheel-Drive and Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks.
- Friday: GN Super Farm Tractors, Super Stock Diesel 4x4 Trucks, and Mini, Multi-Engine, and Unlimited Modifieds, and Region V Limited Pro Stock Tractors and Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks.
- Saturday: GN Super Stock Diesel and Super Farm Tractors, Super Semi Trucks, and Mini and Unlimited Modifieds, and Region V Limited Pro Stock Tractors and Two-Wheel-Drive Trucks.
Point leaders entering the action in Rockwell include Stan and Steve Blagrave of Ackerly, Texas ("Red Horse" SSD), Stan Warda of Berrien Springs, Michigan ("Hammerin' Hank" SF), Justin Gearhart of Kingston, Ohio ("Cream of the Crop" SSD 4x4), Dean Holicky of Montgomery, Minnesota ("Mother Trucker" SEMI), Adam Bauer of Paton, Iowa ("Cowboy Up" MINI), Doug Lively of State Center, Iowa ("Bank Robber" MOD), and Chuck Knapp of Charles City, Iowa ("Screamin' D" UNL). The North Iowa Nationals will mark the season opener for Region V action in 2018.
Meanwhile, one event in each of Indiana and Ohio will take the Region II stage on Friday night, July 6. In South Bend, Indiana, it's the St. Joseph County Fair Pull at 7 p.m., with Light Super Stock, Super Farm, and Limited Pro Stock Tractors and Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks. It is the scheduled opener for Light Supers, while rain has postponed the start of each of the other classes' seasons.
And in Marion, Ohio on Friday at 7:30, we've got Region II-East Light Pro Stocks and Two Wheel Drives and Multi-Engine Modifieds. On top in the points are Matt Durbin of New Philadelphia, Ohio ("Sidewinder" LT PS) and Ryan Writsel of Orient, Ohio ("Lucky Stryke" MOD), while the wheelstanders are just getting going.
Saturday will belong to the Preble County Smokeout in Eaton, Ohio. Starting at 6 p.m., it's Super Farm and Western Light Pro Stock Tractors, Two Wheel Drives, and StainlessDiesel.com Pro Stock Diesel 4x4 3.0s. On top coming out of Arcola are Mark Wiederhold of Clarksville, Ohio ("Bare Necessities" LT PS), Chad Mayhill of Reynolds, Indiana ("2 Timin" TWD), and Adam Hallien of Fort Wayne, Indiana ("Wrecker" PSD 4x4 3.0).
And the Howard County Fair Nationals in Greentown, Indiana will conclude a busy week for the Association on Monday night at 7 with three Western subregional classes: Light Pros, Two Wheel Drives, and StainlessDiesel.com PSD 4x4 3.0s.
