"Dream" Sequence: Hunt Roars Back from Fourth to Capture First Pro Stock Championship

Darrin Hunt (Herndon, Kentucky)

"D2 Pro Stock Edition"

2019 NTPA Grand National Pro Stock Champion

After seven seasons, Darrin Hunt is a Grand National champion once more. The winner of the 2012 Super Farm title with "Dreamin' Too," Hunt put up five wins (including a third straight in Chapel Hill) and 11 top-fives across 20 appearances in 2019. But in between those strong performances came two 11ths (Hutchinson, Hagerstown) and a 12th (Salem) that knocked "D2" to fourth in the standings on a couple of occasions. Hunt found himself in that spot as late as August 10, when he trailed Jason Svonavec's "Bootlegger" (fourth, -9), Julia Ray's "MAC Daddy" (third, -9), and Mike Conny's "MAC Nasty" (-8). That was before Hunt stormed Bowling Green and Canton---the very heart of Ohio's venerable Pro Stock community---for two of his wins and surged back to the standings lead. An early-hook 339' in the Saturday night Sandwich finale left the others jockeying for final positioning and set off the celebration in the camp from Herndon, Kentucky. Hunt ended a streak of five consecutive titles won by John Deeres and is the first International/Case IH champion since 2009 when Tim Cain ("Red Gambler," fifth, -43) won it all on the very same Sandwich track.
