Scholarships

Each year, World Pulling International (WPI) awards scholarships to students involved in the pulling industry who are pursuing higher education. Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in 2021. Applications are now open.

The deadline for all scholarship applications is Wednesday, November 10, 2021. All applications should be made using the online form, here. Scholarship winners will be notified the week following the deadline.

World Pulling International and K&K Insurance Pullers Against Drugs Scholarships

Three $1,000 scholarships are available through World Pulling International, made possible by the NTPA’s Pullers Against Drugs fund and the sponsorship of K & K Insurance. High school seniors and college students in good academic standing who are immediate family members of NTPA competitors, crew members, officials, clerks, promoters, and associates are encouraged to apply. The application includes a series of questions regarding school, community, and pulling involvement, along with a written essay prompt. The application and essay combined will be judged to determine scholarship winners.

The essay prompt for 2021 is: Which NTPA Pulling Hall of Fame inductee do you feel has made the largest impact on the sport of truck and tractor pulling in his/her lifetime? Explain. The full list of inductees and their accomplishments may be found here.

Rod Deck Memorial Scholarship

In honor of the longtime Super Farm, the family of the late Rod Deck created the Rod Deck Memorial Scholarship in the fall of 2020. Deck, a third-generation farmer and two-time Grand National champion (“Dream On”), passed in March 2020 after a courageous years-long battle with cancer. His son Bryan continues to pull “One Bad Apple” in the Limited Pro Stock division. Deck's daughters, Michelle DeBoer and Melyssa Dexter, have committed to awarding a $1,000 scholarship each year for five years (2020-2025) to a student in good academic standing who is enrolled or intends to enroll in a college or trade school. A new recipient will be chosen each year.

Applicants must be, be nominated by, or be affiliated with an NTPA member and must complete the online application here. The application includes an essay, both of which will be judged to determine the winners.

The essay prompt for the 2021 Rod Deck Memorial Scholarship is: What do you currently see as the biggest obstacle facing U.S. agriculture over the next 5-10 years? Please explain why you feel it will have such a large impact and what steps the agricultural industry is currently taking or should take to mitigate it.

Winners will be recognized at the annual NTPA Awards Banquet on December 4, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio, as well as be announced online at www.NTPApull.com and in The Puller magazine.
