FWD Competitor David Garrett Has Passed

WPI/NTPA is saddened to report the passing on Tuesday, August 24 of David Garrett, 49, of Sunbury, North Carolina. Mr. Garrett drove the "One More Time" Ford in national and United Pullers of the Carolinas competition.

Mr. Garrett was employed by the Colony Tire Corporation of Suffolk, Virginia as a commercial sales representative. He was a member of two hunt clubs and enjoyed many outdoor activities.

Across a decade-long career in Four Wheel Drive, Mr. Garrett piloted "One More Time" to three Region IV victories in his home state: Benson's inaugural Mule City 300 in 2014, Elizabeth CIty's 300 in 2016, and Raleigh's State Fair Southern Showdown in 2019.

He is survived by his wife Mary Leigh of 22 years, his son Dylan, his daughters Faith Thorne (Trey Chappell) and Miranda Thorne, his sister Brenda, and five grandchildren. His full obituary may be found here.

A graveside service for Mr. Garrett is scheduled for Saturday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery on Folly Road in Sunbury. No formal visitation has been scheduled. Those visiting the family's home or attending the funeral are asked to practice social distanicing and hygiene measures, including masks.
