Robert Martin, GN Pro Stock Competitor, Has Passed; Update: Funeral Info

It is our sad duty to report the passing on Wednesday, September 8 of Robert L. Martin, 75, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. Martin, his son Josh, and the Martin Family Pulling Team have driven the "John Deere Green," "Think Green," "Dairy Deere," and "That Darn Deere" Pro Stocks over several stints on the NTPA Grand National circuit.

Mr. Martin, a south-central Pennsylvania dairy farmer, first topped the results column in NTPA competition in the 7,500-lb. Super Stock class in Galax, Virginia in 1997. That season, he and his "Dairy Deere" 4255 competed within the NTPA's northeastern Region I and finished fifth in the final standings.

Two winters later, he was the winner of the Wednesday night Pro Stock heat at the National Farm Machinery Show Championship Tractor Pull in Louisville, Kentucky. Once he was fully devoted to the single-charger division, he posted victories and high season finishes with various pulling organizations and at several invitational events including his home-state Keystone Nationals, which he dominated in 2008 and 2009.

In 2013, Mr. Martin finished sixth and seventh in the GN points, having earned a second-place finish with "Think Green" in season-opening Hutchinson, Minnesota. He returned to NTPA competition in 2019 to run the entire Grand National circuit and finished ninth and 11th with "Think Green" and "John Deere Green." The highlight of his final season of competition was his first GN victory---earned at very nearly his hometown track, Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland---as he and Josh went one-two on Saturday night with "John Deere Green" and "Think Green." The whole class, in fact, was a family affair, as Josh's wife Brandi placed 10th with "Dairy Deere" and Matt Dorty took "That Darn Deere" to 11th.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Patsy, sons Bobby (Wendy) and Josh (Brandi); grandsons Cody (Quinn) Martin and Christopher Hammond; a great-granddaughter Adalynn; brothers Ray (Gloria) and Garry (Vicki); and sisters Ruth Bradley and Peggy Porter. His full obituary may be found here.

A public viewing is scheduled for Sunday, September 12 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., 112 West King Street, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. Martin's Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

The WPI/NTPA family mourns with Patsy, Bobby, Josh, and the entire Martin family on the loss of a gentleman and sportsman.
