Indiana Pro Stock Puller Tom Sherrill Has Passed

We are saddened to report the passing on Saturday, December 23 of Thomas L. Sherrill, 86, of Noblesville, Indiana. Mr. Sherrill drove “The Spoiler” John Deere 6030 Pro Stock in national and Hoosier State competition from the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s.

Mr. Sherrill experienced success in the seat of “The Spoiler” early on by posting a second in the 10,000-lb. Pro Stock class and a win in the 12 in Meadville, Pennsylvania in 1986. He retired in 1991 from the management team at General Motors. The next winter, he claimed one of pulling’s biggest prizes: A victory in the 10,000-lb. class at the National Farm Machinery Show Championship Tractor Pull.

Fans may best remember “The Spoiler” in its heyday by the six distinctive numbers painted within a gold stripe along its side shields. Those digits corresponded to the winning Illinois State Lottery ticket Mr. Sherrill shared with his brother BIll.

Beyond the track, Mr. Sherrill served the motorsport as chairman of the Pro Stock Divisional Committee concurrently with nearly all of his national pulling career and for several seasons as the committee’s chairman. He was also among HSTPA’s delegates to the NTPA governing board. Once his time in the driver’s seat was finished, he helped Greg Rasnake with the “Razz-Ma-Tazz” Massey Ferguson Pro Stock and Super Farm as his crew chief.

Mr. Sherrill is survived by his wife Carol, son Tommy (Angela), daughters Susan (John) Miller and Noelle (Jim) Trump, 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

His full obituary may be found at, where condolences may be left for the family.

Visitation for Mr. Sherrill’s family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, December 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bozell Funeral Home,1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

We extend our sincere condolences to Carol, to the Sherrill family, to Greg, and to Mr. Sherrill’s many friends in the pulling world.
