Columbus, Ohio—Chase Richardson protected his standings lead in Grand National CM Pulling Tires Two Wheel Drive, while Colton Whitworth drove his way to a Light Super Stock title—on two vehicles.
Trailing defending champ Terry Blackbourn and “Considered Armed & Dangerous” by one point and in the tiebreaker, Whitworth needed a strong run from “Yield Express” (+1) and help from one more registered vehicle to finish two positions ahead of Blackbourn. He got that aid via team tractor “Bin Buster,” finishing first and second to put the Worthington, Missouri father-son squad on top of the Light Super universe.
Just beforehand, Chase Richardson of Leitchfield, Kentucky reversed a late-class downward distance trend to land in fourth and finish off his first GN title with “Suffering Sanity.” He gained points on three of his immediate rivals and only lost one marker to challenger John Hunt/”Taz.” Richardson credited builder/owner Bryan McDonald in the Canton victory lane.
McDonald, of Kennedyville, Maryland, had already had his own celebration on the Wauseon, Ohio stage on Friday. He and his “Very Li’l Sanity” (+11.5) were in the GN Modified Mini championship conversation all season but had to fend off first Grant Theobald’s third-year effort aboard “Li’l Wicked,” who led after several early hooks, and later Ken Veney’s “Funny Lil’ Farmall” after the four-time GN champ swept Fort Recovery and Bowling Green. Fortunes turned in Wellington, where McDonald’s fourth place in a crowded field put him on the brink of a title-assuring gap.
Entering action with a 30-point lead, Mark T. Mangan of Goodhue, Minnesota completed completed his second straight Four Wheel Drive title at the M.E. Miller Tire Tri-State Showdown. Mangan successfully defended his 2023 title, which was not clinched until the end of the primary round at Wauseon one year ago. There was no such suspense this season, as Mangan and “The Outlaw” (+32) led wire-to-wire after two June victories and steadily drove away from a highly competitive pack of past title-earners.
