Bret Berg (Farmington, Minnesota)
2019 NTPA Grand National Modified Champion
Bret Berg rode his four-engine "Money Maker" to a five-win season and an eight-point margin to claim his latest Modified championship. The native of Farmington, Minnesota departed Tomah tied for the standings lead and then assumed sole possession from Rockwell's first hook forward through the Sandwich doubleheader. Title number four in the Modified division added another chapter to his multidivisional career nine months after his father, Super Stock competitor Bill Berg, was inducted into the Association's Pulling Hall of Fame. Jeff Rose ran the full season on dad Ricky's "Giddy Up" in its three-engine configuration to finish a strong second with a split win in North Iowa and an outright victory in Sandwich that briefly shaved Berg's margin to four heading into the evening session. Bill Douglas Jr.'s "Spook Gone Wild" (-16) scared up 58 points in Illinois to pass teammate Bob Jostock's "Wild Child" (-18), which claimed fourth in the final standings having celebrated a Dairyland weekend championship. Veteran Dennis Christensen ("Pack Rat 4," -40) completed the top five and list of Enderle Pull-Off invitees.
