WPI/NTPA regrets to report the passing on Monday, November 6 of Carl Knapp, 88, of Charles City, Iowa. Mr. Knapp was the father and grandfather of NTPA competitors Chuck and Kyloe Knapp ("Screamin' D" Unlimited).
The elder Mr. Knapp served in the U.S. military on active duty through 1955 and for four additional years in the Army Reserve. During his time in Korea, he attended officer’s school and graduated first in his class. Afterward, he returned to the family farm north of Colwell, Iowa.
Carl and his late wife Mellie enjoyed travel and loved the sport of tractor pulling. Mr. Knapp accompanied Chuck and the Knapp Farms Team on their voyage to the European Super Pull in the Netherlands in 2018.
Carl is survived by his daughters Cindi (Dennis) Shanks, Deb (Mike Pappas) Smith; son Chuck (Deanne) Knapp; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Evie Backer and Doris (Don) Hibner; and special friend Marlys Gerleman. His full obituary may be viewed here.
Condolences may be mailed to the family at 1117 Walnut Avenue, Charles City, Iowa 50616. In lieu of flowers, memorial monies sent to the family will be given for Alzheimer’s research. As were Mr. Knapp's wishes, his funeral service will remain private.
