By an executive order from the office of Governor Mike DeWine, all remaining 2020 Ohio county fairs starting on or after July 31 will be limited to junior fairs with no attractions open to the general public. The order was announced during the governor's coronavirus news conference of Tuesday, July 28. Specific activities like livestock competitions and exhibits will still be permitted, but there will be no grandstand entertainment, rides, or games.
As a result, the Preble County Fair Pull in Eaton (Friday, August 7), the Champaign County Fair Pull in Urbana (Monday, August 10), and the Great Darke County Fair Pull in Greenville (Tuesday, August 25) have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled in 2020. These events' tentative 2021 dates will be August 6 for Eaton, August 9 for Urbana, and August 24 for Greenville.
DeWine’s motivation for issuing the order was the report of more than a dozen COVID-19 infections originating from one fair that took place in June. "It’s becoming increasingly clear that we cannot have a regular, safe fair in Ohio in the summer of 2020," DeWine said.
