Columbus, Ohio---The National Tractor Pullers Association and Granite City Motorpark have reached an agreement to bring NTPA Championship Pulling to Sauk Rapids in central Minnesota. The two-day Granite City NTPA Pro Nationals event is scheduled for 2021's Memorial Day weekend: Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30.
In NTPA Championship Pulling, vehicles drag a 20-ton weight transfer sled along a straight, dirt track as the sled's resistance increases. Within a class of similar vehicles, the puller who achieves the greatest distance is victorious. At events across the United States, elite competitors campaign their specialized machines---which resemble farm tractors, trucks, and dragsters---for chances at purse money and precious points toward end-of-season championships.
The 2021 season will be the NTPA's 52nd as the world's original and number-one sanctioning organization for premier-level truck and tractor pulling events. Fierce, fair pulling competition and a family-friendly, patriotic atmosphere are hallmarks of NTPA Championship Pulling events. If you haven't experienced the rumbles, roars, and rivalries of the heaviest sport on wheels, why not give it a try in Sauk Rapids?
Included in the roster of classes to appear in both sessions at the Granite City Pro Nationals is a pair of Grand National divisions: Super Stock Diesel Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks and multi-engine Modifieds. At present, Sauk Rapids will mark the regular-season opener for both on the NTPA’s Grand National circuit, which is presented by Case IH Agriculture.
Also hooking each day will be Limited Pro Stock Tractors and Two-Wheel-Drive Trucks, while Super Farm Tractors will appear on Saturday only and Light Pro Stock Tractors on Sunday only. These four divisions will compete for Pro National purses and points toward championships in the Association's Region III, which encompasses North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin in addition to the Gopher State.
Moreover, pullers in all Sauk Rapids classes will vie for a fast start along the Road to the Enderle Pull-Off, the NTPA's all-star invitational whose 34th iteration is planned for Saturday, September 18, 2021 in Urbana, Ohio.
Gregg Randall, NTPA's Executive Director, was pleased to confirm the agreement. "In addition to marking the unofficial beginning of summer, Memorial Day weekend offers families a chance to get away from work and school and to gather to enjoy each other's company. We at the NTPA couldn't be prouder to bring our brand of entertainment to the heart of Minnesota.
"Whether you like trucks or tractors, smoke or noise, we think you'll find something in this show to get excited about."
Regional Director Dale Quamme remarked on the enthusiasm for pulling expressed by James Trantina, the new owner of the Motorpark. “James is eager to bring NTPA Championship truck and tractor pulling to Granite City’s racing fans. This is a great facility with ample parking and many upgrades taking place.
“I look forward to working with James and his team to grow this event and make it successful for many seasons to come,” Quamme concluded.
Granite City Motorpark, a 3/8-mile clay oval, has hosted racing on Sunday nights throughout the summer months for six of the past eight seasons. The facility regularly features several automotive divisions within WISSOTA, a 40-year-old sanctioning organization that also governs races at Dacotah Speedway, a fellow NTPA track in Mandan, North Dakota.
Sauk Rapids, a suburb of St. Cloud along the upper rapids of the Mississippi River numbering 13,000 citizens, is about 50 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. In addition to the racetrack, Sauk Rapids is home to SummerLand Family Fun Park and the Bob Cross Nature Preserve.
