MOD Competitor Bob Hiler Has Passed

The WPI/NTPA office is saddened to report the passing on Monday, November 29 of Robert Hiler, 71, of New Washington, Ohio. Mr. Hiler competed for more than 30 seasons on national and state circuits with various Chevrolet-powered Modifieds including the three-engine "Dutchtown Digger II."

Mr. Hiler was a diesel mechanic at Sharpnack Chevrolet prior to becoming the owner and operator of Hiler Service Center. He and his brothers began their pulling career in the mid 1970s. After a brief stint on the Grand National circuit and a 10th-place finish in the 1976 standings, Mr. Hiler concentrated his efforts at the regional and state levels, particularly with Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association. He proceeded from the original single-engine "Hiler Bros." machine to the "Farmer's Fantasy" twin before campaigning the stairstep-triple "Digger" for 15 seasons until 2010.

Mr. Hiler is survived by his daughters Danell Phillips (Craig Poth), Amanda (David) Siefert, and Chelsea (Carlton) Laughbaum of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren; siblings Karl, Faye (John) Rothhaar, Lucy (Tom) Hay, Louie Hiler, and Jerry Hiler; sister-in-law Deb Hiler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Hiler's family and friends is scheduled for Monday, December 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at Secor Funeral Home, 414 East Main Street, in New Washington. His service will follow at the funeral home. Those who wish may leave condolences at www.SecorFuneralHomes.com.

Our sympathy is extended to Amanda and David and to the Hiler family.
