Columbus, Ohio---The National Tractor Pullers Association will open its 53rd season of competition with the Ocala Tractor Pull at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion in Ocala, Florida. The two-session, open-entry Regional National event will take place under the pavilion roof on Friday and Saturday, January 28-29, 2022.
In NTPA Championship Pulling, vehicles drag a 20-ton weight transfer sled along a straight, dirt track as the sled's resistance increases. Within a class of similar vehicles, the puller who achieves the greatest distance is victorious. At events across the United States, elite competitors campaign their specialized machines---which resemble farm tractors, trucks, and dragsters---for chances at purse money and precious points toward end-of-season championships.
NTPA Championship Pulling is the world's original and number-one circuit for premier-level truck and tractor pulling events. Come to Ocala and fill your senses with the sights of glistening graphics, the sounds of mechanical might, the scents of exhausted energy, and the spirit of American achievement.
The Mid-Florida Tractor Pullers Association joined the NTPA in spring 2021 as a member state organization and will operate the event with Association-certified tech officials and weight transfers and national-standard contest procedures including tech inspections.
Divisions to be featured both nights include Limited Light Super Stock and Light Super Stock Tractors, Two-Wheel-Drive Trucks, and Modified Minis. Each of these classes will be conducted according to 2022 NTPA Pulling Rules, and NTPA-registered vehicles will accrue points toward potential 2022 championships and/or Enderle berths originating in Region VI.
The four national classes are open to any competitor whose vehicle meets NTPA rules for construction and safety equipment, but pre-registration is required.
Update: The application deadline has now passed. Additional information about the pull may be found at the Mid-Florida TPA's website, www.MidFLTractorPullers.com.
Additional state-sanctioned classes appearing both nights include Light Limited Turbo Tractors, Modified Two-Wheel-Drive and Pro Stock Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks, and naturally aspirated Mini and multi-engine Modifieds. These classes will follow NTPA safety rules, and as with the national classes, pre-registration via the application on the website is mandatory.
The event marks NTPA's return to the Sunshine State after a 25-year hiatus---Naples and Milton hosted Grand National invitational events in March 1995---but the Association's history in Florida harkens to its first decade of existence. Eustis hosted a sanctioned event as early as February 1972, and a "Southern circuit" ran through Florida and Georgia in midwinter months in the mid- to late 1970s.
Rodney Swift, Mid-Florida TPA President, explained his club's decision to join forces with NTPA. "When you get to a point where we're at, you can only get so big without bringing different stuff in. It was time to go to the next level to keep making bigger, better stuff happen."
