The WPI/NTPA family mourns the passing on Monday, December 23 of Steven D Vandenberg, 77, of Holland, Michigan. He had been battling several illnesses, but his passing was unexpected.
Mr. Vandenberg and his wife Pat were champions of the Association’s Pullers Against Drugs campaign for decades and represented the cause at Grand and Regional National and Wolverine state events and at schools and gatherings where children could meet competitors and be reached with the anti-drug message.
He retired from his career as a security officer for Davenport University, which was also his collegiate alma mater. Besides his avid attendance at NTPA pulls, he enjoyed collecting stamps and postcards, and metal detecting. His penchant for locating and valuing antiques led the couple to form S & P Small Treasures in Holland.
Besides Pat, his life partner of 47 years, Mr. Vandenberg is survived by his daughter Tammy (Tim) Scholten; his granddaughter Nichole (Matthew) Milligan and their children Sawyer and Parker; his nieces Eden (Ryan) Corbett and their children (Kinsley and Samuel), Samantha (Joshua) DuVal and their children (Madelynn, Isla, and Charlotte), Jennifer Vander Silk, and Melissa (Jason) Gibson and their child (Kylee).
Visitation for Mr. Vandenberg’s family and friends is scheduled for Monday, December 30 from 5 to 7 p.m.at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th Street in Holland, Michigan 49423. His funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
